ERG valve on 87 TPI
I removed the smog pump from my 87 TPI system, as it was not needed for my application.
Does anyone know what position the ERG valve will be in if I do not connect it? (will it be fully open or fully Closed?). Am I correct to assume that the motor will run without this connected?

I don't know for a fact if your first statement is correct. There's an "Important/Useful" sticky at the top of the Exhaust forum that discusses the interaction of the A.I.R. system with TPI. I don't know if it applies to your MAF system or not.
The EGR valve is normally closed. Disabling it will keep it closed all the time. Having it closed all the time will result in part throttle pinging problems unless you reprogram your PROM timing tables. Most likely you'll cause the knock sensor to kick in, which will grossly retart timing, and seriously degrade performance. Having it working as intended absolutely does not affect performance.
Don't assume the factory didn't know what they were doing when they designed these systems. Doesn't mean they can't be made better, but it often means you can't just eliminate parts of it with no impact.

Now that I know the ERG will stay closed would you know how I can connect it to say open without going to the computer or wire harness. I am using a Panless closed loop harness #60102.

Sounds like a TPI swap into a non-3rd gen, though.

I view my car as a 87 5.7 GTA in Disguise.
I do have a 87 GTA but, it needs more work than my other car. I have not figured out how to post pitchers yet.
above was a misprint should have read EGR not "ERG" sorry.
