Who has stroked a 305?

I know there are people out there who have done this and I just want to know how much horsepower and torque you got from stock? Did you feel the difference after the conversion?

Thanks

Robert

I can tell you in about 2 weeks. I'm just finishing my 335 stroker project. Is an '84 L69, 335 stoker, S/R Torquer heads, 262XE cam, roller rockers, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock TES headers.. I'll post specs when I get back from the dyno... I'm guessing 325-350hp range from other similar builds I've seen..

You will definitely feel the difference. Gains are realized in both rod size and strength and are almost instantaneous.

Either Super Chevy or Chevy Hi-Perf did a full article on stroking a 305 to a 335 a few months ago...I think they installed it in a Camaro they gave away. I'll flip through some past issues and give some more specifics...

I'll look forward to that article, thanks.

Yes, I had expected the stroking jokes.

Thanks again

I have that isssue right infront of me!!! I never miss much when it has a camaro on it. I was all excited to do it but I found that it was going to be quite expensive. You are dealing with a new crank, new rods, new pistons because the rod mounting is different because of the stroke. You could build a 350 cheaper. I would still rather have a stoked 305 though. It would be awesome to smoke 5.0's with a stock looking motor."Yup it is really just a 305 that whooped you " HHAHAH

I would like to hear more about doing this though!!

Purpleworm, I agree with your sentiment about sleepers. However, unless someone gets down close enough to look at freeze plugs, etc... they won't know a 305 from a 400.

It is just the fact that you would be beating on mustangs with the 305. The stroked 305 would give you even more torque and less top tho, right? I guess it further complements the TPI setup

I pulled the 305 out of mine and had a stroked 383 built for under $4,000. If you want a sleeper, mine still has "5.0 LITER H.O." all over it. The thing is, it has 420 HP with a Tremec 5-speed and 3.73 posi rear. I would throw out the 305 and put you money to better use on a 383. If you want a sleeper, don't advertise it's a 383.

Stroking a 305 takes what is already bad about a 305, its stroke is too long for its bore, and makes it even worse. If you want to stroke an engine, stroke a 350 to make it a 383. If you want to be an underdog with "something different" go right ahead. I'll take a 350 or larger any day.
