EDIT: what would that be, like 24* advanced??? i'm not too familiar with this stuff...mine should be at 6*, right?? what should i notice if it really is 24* compaired to 6*

I don't know what other post you're talking about, but all L69's came with "EST" from the factory. Unless yours has been modified, it has EST.
To set the timing, you first disconnect the 4-wire flat connector that comes out of the distributor base and attaches to the engine compartment wiring harness. Start the engine, set the timing to 6 degrees, and reconnect the connector.
For non-computer controlled ignition systems, you disconnect the vacuum line to the distributor vacuum advance. Then set the timing at idle.

Oh, you mean somebody else's other post https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=258129
You have EST. The engine being referred to in the other post is not the same as yours, and the EST connector is completely different in a completely different place. Computer controlled carb vehicles through 1986 have the connector by the distributor, as described above. It is sometimes difficult to find in the cramped area by the distributor.

The plug you need to disconnect is behind and below the dist, usually.
If you feel around the base of the dist, you will find 2 harnesses coming out of it. One has 3 wires and goes to the cap; the other has 4 wires, is about 8-10" long, and has a 4-pin Weatherpak connector on it. That's the connector you need to disconnect.
Unplug it, and start the engine; it will run terrible. You may need someone to hold the throttle open slightly, so it doesn't die. The Check Engine light will come on. Set the timing, turn the engine off, and reconnect the plug, next time you start it, the light will go out.
I'm not sure what will happen if you disconnect the 5-pin plug from the module mounted on the firewall. I've never tried it. It's not the right thing to do.
