Engine Removal Questions?

I have one maybe two transmissions bolts hold the engine. I am leaving the trans in the car, and it is sitting on a trans jack. My thought is to take the engine mounts off of the k-member and lower the engine enough to reach the two bolts. The hitch is the bolts on the k-member seem to just spin around. Is there a nut welded on the inside or is it a situation where theres a nut/washer combo inside and my plan won't work?

Thanks,
Jason

Ok, what about removing the pads from the block? Will that work? How is the engine removed normally?

Are the one or two bolts you are trying to reach at or near the top? If so just let the engine set down in its normal position and use a box wrench or one of the ratcheting box wrenches. I always pull my motor and leave the trans in the car. I can have my motor disconnected and hanging on the cherry picker in about 3 hours. The trans bolts are no doubt a pain in the rear, I use a longgg extension for most of the bolts with a swivel and the ones at the top I just use a wrench after pulling the distributor. I've learned that there are a few tricks to make it easier. Good luck.

OK I got the bolts, now what?

What stays in the bellhousing and what does not? I have pictures, but they are too big to upload.

hey man, just disconnect the engine from the pad mounts on the k member. its the easiest way. you can get all the bell housing bolts out without moving the engine.

get a 9/16 swivel socket and lay under the car and lower the tail shaft of the transmission as low as you can then reach up with the socket on about 1-2 feet of extensions and undo the rest of the bolts its very simple and will come right out ...
by the way did you take out the converter to flexplate bolts?

No torque converter... it's a stick.

I raised the engine up enough to get clearance for my ratchet under the k-member pads, and undid them. I then lowered the engine enough to reach the top bolts. It was all done then.

Now I have to get the flywheel off.

It has about six bolts. All except for one look to be 11/16. The one is 5/8. I can't turn just one because the whole wheel spins around.

Is oil residue supposed to be in there?

Thanks,
Jason
