Pistons and Compression???
Hi,
I need to select pistons for my set up listed below, at first I was thinkin forged but after some research I'm considering hypereutectic, probably the set from Summit because of the variety in compression sizes and from what I've read hypereutectic is better over the long haul. Now I'm not gonna be running juice so I wanted to know if Hypereutectic you run just fine in my set up?
My second question is about compression, I'm running a set of Cast Iron heads (Sportmans II) and I wanted to know what the best compession would be for this 383 street engine to run on pump gas, 92 octane......I was thinkin 9.75:1 but could I go higher without any problems??
My Setup:
-Scat 3.75 Crank
-Forged Rods 5.7in w/ARP rod bolts
-World Sportsman II heads,64cc, 2.02/1.60, 3 angle valve job
-Cam with 236/242 duration at .05 inches
-1.6:1 rockers
-Edlebrock Performer RPM intake
-Holly Double pumper, 750 cfm

As long as you don't run juice or charge it, hypereutectics are actually preferred because the piston to cylinder clearences are tighter, reducing wobble and knocking noise when cold.
Even with tectics, a small amount of juice (75-100hp) is OK even though many say NO WAY... Just stay out of detonation...
The ZZ series motors used to come with forged pistons but because of so many complaints about the piston knock when cold, they switched to hyperglass pistons... What a bunch of ignorant costomers IMO.

if you're going to spray it use forged. too easy to run into problems with spray and hyper pistons.
