Here's a good one for you guys.....
I have an 84 Camaro Sport Coupe LG4. I am putting in a 350 TPI motor from a wrecked 89 Trans Am GTA. I have the engine, harness, and computer. I am modifying my dash harness so it will work. I noticed the GTA has the GM security key with the computer chip on it. My question is, will my car even start with my non-security steering column/tumbler once I get this conversion done? Or do I have to modify it so I have to have a security key? ANY help would much be appreciated. Thanks.

Well you have 2 choices. You can either swap the chip with one that has the vats turned off, or you can search around for the resistor values the keys have, and play guessing games with the ecm for about an hour until you hit the right resistance.
Anyone who wants to be nice enough to supply you with the values, please do it in email or I'm sure this post will disappear.
Actually I forgot choice #3, taking the column (I think its different) and the key from the GTA. I dont think the columns are the same, and Im not sure the parts you would need to put on yours can be installed on there without too much hassle. Never tried it.

Check out this ThirdGen articleand incorporate the Resistor Trick to bypass the VATS (Vahicle Anti-Theft System)
The VATS is controlled by that little thing on the security key.
Thomas.
