car idles at 1250 rpm, bad IAC?
My car idles at about 1500 to 1250 rpm when I have it in park. Do I need a new IAC valve? How do I test it to see if it is bad? I've heard of cleaning the inside of the throttle body where it goes into. Should I do that? Do I need to take the TB off if I do that? Will I need a new gasket if I take it off? Sorry I asked so many questions. Any help would be appreciated.

Car: GTA -89
Engine: Blown 415"
Transmission: 4L80E
Axle/Gears: Strange 12-bolt
Do a TPS ad IAC adjustment as they are described in the tech article section, if that doesent help cleaning could be a good idea.

My car wigs out once in a while. Somtimes it will idle high like yours for a few days. Sometimes it will idle low and want to stall.
The TPS and IAC adjustments are good advice but sometimes other things are the triggers. Like when you get low on engine oil and start to burn it or vaporize it and it gets into the intake via the PCV system.

My '88 Iroc used to idle at 625-650. Now, when I let off the gas, it will either idle at 1100, or 750, but if I tap the gas quickly, it will drop down to 625. Would this be the IAC or whatever?
