Bearing Grease In New Oil Pump??
One of the mechanics I work with suggested that I pack my new oil pump with bearing grease to get it to pick up oil quicker upon initial startup. Does this sound right to anyone or will it clog my oil passages? I'm guessing it will clog my filter, but that gets changed after the first 20 minutes of running anyway right?

Never used bearing grease, but have used vaseline. Best idea? Preoil the motor. Let me know if you need how to for this. And, no it will not clog anything, and yes, you should change the oil after the initial breakin period. I don't care what the books say...I believe after 30 minutes, 500 miles, 1500 miles switch to synthetic if occasional use vehicle/sports car, or Penzoil if daily commuter.

do it and you stand a good chance of breaking something. i've used lubriplate 105 assembly lube before, actually everytime i do a rebuild. never had any problems.

So you're saying the bearing grease was a really bad idea? It didn't sound that great to me either, but I figured age and experience had my opinion beat. I guess I can take the pump apart and clean it all out.

I have used white lithium grease packed in there before. I have also used assembly lube, and trans gel. Just make sure and change the oil after it runs awhile. I always take a drill and pump it up manually first anyway, so no priming is usually necessary doing it this way.
Axle type bearing grease sounds a little thick and scary to me.

It really does not need anything. You could set it in oil and spin it but if you prime the motor with a drill before starting the point is moot. I primed a 350 this weekend with a worn out drill all rockers had oil in less than 3 mins.
Anything you put in a motor will change consistancy after the motor heats up. Only lubriplate turns to a liquid that will flow through a oil filter. Molly lube and all others will cause more trouble than they will help.
