My machinist screwed up my valve guide boss

I went to check on the progress of my 081 heads today and they were supposed to enlarge the spring pockets out to let me use the comp springs I have. only the guy tells me on the phone yesterday that they didnt have the right tool to do it yet and they were going to get it on monday.

then when I go there I notice that one of the spring pockets has been milled but most of the valve guide boss was taken with it. it looks like the pic I included.

The guy said that he would make a little sleeve to correct the mistake that was made but I am wondering if the strength of the boss has been comprimised.

This was only done to one guide and the guy admitted that someone else did this and then he caught it.

What should I do?

Measure the diameter.

If he milled them to exactly .501", or .531", or even close, have him mill it to one of those diameters; and then use these (or their equivalent in the other of those 2 sizes).

I'd thank him for it, instead of reaming him.... but only after he fixes it for free.

Ok cool the guide boss doesnt really need to be that thick then?

to me the one that he did looks very thin. I will ask monday about the thickness.

Thanks!

Yup, looks like it was cut for postive seals, if cut to size. Make them finish it, it only takes a few seconds on each one anyways
