New engine initial startup and break in procedure?
Well..whaddya do? This is the first I've ever done on a never run engine. All I've done so far is fill it up with 30wt and spin the pump with a pre luber in a drill for a minute or so. I hope to drop it in the car tomorrow, and get it started before too long. Thanks.

run it between 1300 and 2000 or so changing the rpm, watch for leaks, run a eletric fan to force air thru the radiator. when it gets to temp i shut it down for a little while then start it back up after it has about 30 minutes on it i change oi land filter, then take it for a test drive.

I like Ed's idead of checking for leaks
What i like to do is run the car for around a 100 miles then dump the filter and add a quart of oil. Some new engines will burn a quart in the first couple 100 miles watch for that.
Also change the oi& filter when you hit 500 miles. Also i like to keep the car under 3000rpm for at least 500 miles. Are you sure you want 30wt? kinda seems a bit thick for a new "tight" engine. or is it 10/30?

run the car at a steady 2000 rpm for about 20 min. have someone do this as you check for leaks, check temp, etc. after this change the oil. Drive at normal pace, dont lug it or rapidly accelerate, for 100 miles. Change the oil. (ya dont need to drive 100 mi all at once but at least get to operating temp everytime) drive the same for 500 mi. change the oil. the rings should be seated now. i usually change the oil again at after 1000 mi and then 3000mi. after the 300o mi oil change HAVE FUN. remeber there is no such thing as changing the oil too much on a new or, espicially, rebuilt motor during break in
