305 TPI Intake Gasket Replacement

I'm in the process of changing my intake gasket on my 90 305 TPI (Speed Density) and I have a couple of questions, 1. Do I have to remove the fuel rail and injectors in order to get the manifold off? 2. Can I re use the runner gaskets or should they be replaced?3. I see little pools of oil as well as colant, would the oil most likely be from the valve cover gaskets or something else?

Steve

1. No.
2. I wouldnt reuse them, even though I have done it Cheap insurance for vacuum leaks.
3. The oil might be coming up the intake manifold bolts. Depends on how bad it is, and where the leakage is. You will have to decide. Coolant doesnt sound good, I hope its the thermostat housing.

I had to pull my intake the other day and I removed my fuel rails only because I wanted to change my o-rings on my fuel injectors (I had it broke down that far $6 is cheap insurance). When you buy your gaskets more than likely you will have to buy a complete intake set anyway. I bought a complete set from NAPA for $30. You didn't state where the puddles of coolant were but I know when I pulled my intake up off the heads some drops of coolant in the intake dropped into the lifter valley. Be careful when threading the bottom runner bolts back onto the base if your valve covers are still on, I crossthreaded mine and had to pull it back off and retap the holes.

Hey Vette.. for a little more cheap insurance you might have sent your injectors while you had them out to Rich at www.cruzinperformance.com for cleaning and flowmatching. I don't know how long it's been since yours were cleaned or how old they are, but mine were about 40k old and he found 1 to be flowing 14% lower than the others and 3 that were leaking. I'm sure if you did a search on this board for cruzinperformance you would be hard pressed to find one person who had anything bad to say about Rich. Just a suggestion....

I know I should have done that but I wanted to get the car back together quickly as it is my daily driver. I will be tearing the engine back down completely for an overhaul in the next couple of months so I will be doing some more thorough cleaning and testing. I checked out that website and it looks like I might be using them in the near future. The reason for the manifold pull this time was I was trying to change my tstat and broke the bolts off in the intake (doh!). So a 2 buck tstat cost me about $100 after it was all done. I should've left well enough alone.
