problem with mallory distributor

i have one of those new mallory hei distributors and am having a problem with the advance. i set the initial to about 16* and only get about 28* degrees at 3200 rpms. no matter what i do i still only get anywhere between 12 and 14* degress of mechanical advance. the advance like hits a brick wall, it just stops. does anybody have one of the distributors and have had problems with them?

First you need to know what the dizzy is spec'ed for, if you're getting the spec'ed advance, then you'll need a recurve kit, and possibly (dizzy dependant) have to mod the stops for the weights, or the weights themselves.
