Obviously you need a distributor gear... you can get them at aAuto Zone or elsewhere in teh "Help" product line, or you can get one from Comp or Crane through Jeg's or Summit or your local speed shop.

You need to figure out why it did that. Does this car by any chance have a high-volume oil pump? If so, lose it. The oil pump is driven by the dist, so that gear has to stand that load.

Of course, the next question is "What happened to the bits of metal that got tore off"?

lokk at the rest of the teeth, if they are getting thin, then what has happened is that your cam is slowly grinding down on the distributor gear, when if finally gets too thin it will just knock the teeth off. I ordered a cam from summit that did that to my gear twice, turns out they made the cam from the wrong die, so the gears didnt line up right. As for the metal in the pan, most of it has already been filtered through and is fine. I just drained the oil, and got the rest of the pieces out. If the gears were not worn thin, check to see if your oil pump will still turn, if not then that may be your problem. Hope I helped.

I was in the local Car Quest store the other day and noticed them hanging on the shelf in the "Help" section... in Vista, maybe a bit far to go from Bakersfield

I have a gear with less than 500 mi on it. I got a msd so it's not compatable with it. I'll give it up for $5, i'll take care of shipping. If interested e-mail me. If not, you can get the gear from borg-warner for around $30.

I had a gear that looked exactly like that. I couldn't figure out why my timing was off, I thought my distributor moved. I was driving back from school one day (90 miles) and when I got off of the expressway, I stomped on it to get the car slideways for my friends. KABOOOM! I thought my motor exploded. Checked under the hood, didn't see anything. Tried starting it again, Kabooom! Sounded like a shotgun blast next to your head. Anyway, I had no oil pressure, when cranking, first clue, and it wouldn't start. I tied up the exhaust that got blown off and had it towed (5 miles, luckily). My ever knowledgable dad says, "sounds like you sheared your distributor gear." Pulled my distributor and low and behold I had a gear that looked like yours. I have a bronze gear to go with my roller cam. I put a cam stop against the timing cover to control "cam walk." It is still wearing, but not as fast. I have a HV oil pump, too. Sorry this is so long. Good luck.

I picked one up from the dealer about a month ago, IIRC it was about 25 bucks. They had to order it, that took a day.
