Whining sound- Torque Converter?
I have a 700-r4 behind an L69 305 and something's making a hell of a whine after the car is warmed up, and only when moving between about 10 and 40 mph. The noise can only be heard form inside the car. Could it be the torque converter slipping? The sound appears to be coming from just in front of the dash. I have tried everything and cannot figure out where the noise is coming from.

Any ideas? I'm dying here. I know it isn't breaks, or belts. I thought it might be the smog pump but everyone in my buddy's shop say they don't think so. I'm out of ideas

Speedo drive cable? Those are more squealy than whiny, but I can't tell you from here.

It could be called a squeel too. It's like wet sneakers on a plastic floor. But it is paced to the speed of the car too. It has definite rythm to it that speeds up till I'm going so fast I can't hear it any more.

I was just joking about the squeal vs whine difference, but what you're describing "sounds" like it's the speedo cable. I think if you just unhook it from the firewall and drop some mystery oil in it, the squeak should go away. There's probably a better method for lubricating this, maybe do a search. Several of my parents' cars used to do this, and it was worse when it was cold, too. I'm pretty sure there's a junction at the firewall, but I could be wrong, I've never done it myself on a camaro or firebird, only on a Malibu.
