Roller tip rockers. good or junk???
I have to get a set of long slot rockers because of the lift on my cam. The stock rockers where getting hung up on the stud. I was wondering if the roller tip rockers are any good. I cant afford a set of allumium roller rockers so I thought they would be the next best thing. So, are they worth the extra cash or should I just get regualar rockers. Thanks

depends 1.5 or 1.6 ratio the 1.5 are fine stock replacements but the 1.6 make the engine run like its got a bigger cam.
Also if there not self alining rockers you need to buy "guide plates" for the push rods

I'm getting 1.5s. Why do I need guide plates. The motor is a 76 350 and the heads are S/R torkers. Do I need to buy self aligning rockers. How do you tell the differance. Thanks

MK,
If you are going to get stamped rockers, I would at least spend the few extra dollars for the roller tips. Comp and Crane make decent stamped rockers with rollers, and the reduced friction will mean just a little more power available at the driveshaft.

IMHO the stamped metal ones are not worth the $$$. They flex an unbelievable amount; in most installations they reduce final lift at the valve from the theoretical 1.5 to somewhere in the range of 1.38 to 1.42.
Get the Comp 1412 (I think) 1.5 cast steel roller tip, or 1416 1.6 version.
You probably don't need self-aligning. IIRC those heads have guide plates on them already. You might need self-aligning if you had stock late-model heads.
