gas tank
I need to put a new fuel pump in my 91 Camaro. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I can't get the gas tank out. I searched for other treads but evidently I am the only one not smart enough to do it. Anyway I have removed the panhard bar, anti-sway bar, the exhaust, one of the springs, disconnected the shocks and lowered the axle as far as the brake lines will allow. I know some people cut a hole in the trunk but I don't like that, not to mention that there is about two feet of hard line attached to the fuel pump.
Any help I can get on this would be great. Thanks guys

not to be a smart *** but did you unbolt the straps holding it in? take the cap off, remove the little plastic thing around the fuel door? if you said yes to all the questions the tank should pretty much fall out.

yeah it should pull right out with all the work you have done already definately have someone else help guide it out of the car ...but last one i did we were both under the car and it slid right out ...did you say you moved the muffler out of the way also?? it needs to be moved to get it out also ..we had to anyway ..all you need to do is disconnect it at the cat and remove the hangers on the muffler and swing it to the passenger side with the wheel off that side it will swing out of the way completely and you shouldnt have a problem...hope that helps.

For some reason this seems to work really easy for some people and really hard for others. For me i couldn't maneuver the filler neck out of that space so i had to pry the neck under that lip by the gas tank lid and kinda kick the tank out (I had to do it myself). It was a real pain in the *** but don't break that filler neck.

Pull down on the passenger side of the gas tank with the filler tube about 1/4 of the way out. This should bend the filler neck so you can get the tank out. You may have to bend the neck a little more but don't worry the tank will be OK. Done this lots of times. When you put the tank back (tank bolted in) the filler neck will be too low. Just get a piece of round stock stick it in the filler neck and pry upward till the filler neck is centered in the hole.

Its hard to explain how I do it... I can pull the tank out instantly I've done it so many times. You need to take it and tilt the front/passenger side of the tank downward, then the filler neck will slide out of the door. Now just pull just pull it back-and-to-the-passenger side. It should slide right out.
