JB-Weld on Air Tube
Have a small hole rusted in my Driver side Air Injection Tube. If I seal it with JB-Weld do you think it will work? And will the JB Weld in any way damage the O2 sensor? Oh, and what kind of pressure does the Air tubes need to handle?
thanks,
phil

If the tube is rusted there, it's from the inside. You can JB weld that hole all you want, and it will work fine today; but tomorrow, when the metal right next to it that's paper thin gives way, it'll be right back.... then you can JB weld that, and the next rusted-out metal will fail; etc. etc. It's about like painting over a fender that's rusted from the inside.
You'd be better off replacing the tubes.

thanks, I see I can order from Parts America, GP-Sorensen ($23)or Borg-Warner ($33). Do you think the Borg-Warner is really better? Or is there somewhere else I should get one.

or better yet, ask someone from a non-emmission county/state and get them for free.

They're probably the same.
I wouldn't get a used one; they tend to be all in about the same shape after all these years.
Make sure you get the check valve off your old one (if it's even still good); and when you put it on your new tubing manifold, use Teflon tape, so they don't rust themselves solid.

Just the standard white pipe fitting tape? I might have some anti-sieze goop. I assume that would work as well. Will I be able to verify the check valve works by inspection?
thanks alot RB.

Yeah just the usual tape.
The check valve will be pretty obvious when you get it off; either it will still have its guts, which is a little disc about like a dime and a little spring, or it won't....

RB you were right. I removed them last night. they were basically a chrome skin with very little tubing left. All rusted internally. I put some PB Blaster on them, cut them off, and then used a socket on them. They came out pretty easy. One check valve was bad. My new ones should be here tomorrow.
I found some other holes in them. When I put the new ones on will there be any change how the engine runs?
thanks,
phil

Since I had the Air Tubes off I decided to change the Valve Cover Gaskets and paint the valve covers. Two questions:
1. How much do I need to torque the Air Tube nuts?
2. Any tricks to keeping the Valve Cover bolts tight? (should you use Lock Tight)?
thanks,
phil
