My Car Honks!

Ok ... this is sorta weird.

Last night, after work (I get off at midnight) my buddy called me and wanted to go get coffee and head to the waterfront as many of the local car enthusiasts tend to do meets there every night looking to street race.

Anywho, we get there. Me with my TransAm, my buddy with his Golf VR6, and my other buddy with his Eclipse GSX. So we pull up, park in a group and go check out the other rides.

We ended up going back to our cars and just chatting. All of a sudden I heard this honk sound come from the back end of my car. My buddy with the Vr6 was like "dude...did your car just cut one?". I looked all over teh back end of my car and there was no fluids leaking, no animals underneath or anything. I had no clue WTF caused the honk sound. sure enough 40 minutes later it does the honk again. I then figured it was something to do with my fuel system so I went to remove the gas tank cap and it made a hissing sound. There was some serious freakin preasure in my gas tank. Well we didn't stay much longer as the cops kept showing up and scarring people off so we decided to bail.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? If so...how did you fix it.

Yup. It's happened to me.

It's a little plastic vent valve for the gas tank; just inside of and in front of the left rear wheel.

I replaced it.

Your gas tank is supposed to hold presure.

dealer

Something like "fuel tank pressure relief valve", I don't remember the exact verbage; seems like they had to pull up the blowup of that part of the car and I had to point it out.

Sorry, it's been a while, and I'm getting old; and as you'll probably find out, when you get old, your memory is the second thing you lose, but I can't remember what the first thing was supposed to be.

LOL no problem. I will consult our pontiac dealership where I bought all my AC Delco tuneup parts and see what they have there for parts. I am sure when I tell them that I want a preasure release valve and mention that my car is honking after sitting for a while they might be able to put 2 and 2 together. Maybe my haynes manual will have something about it...doubtfull but maybe

Thanks for the info.

Ask the wife RB, bet she remembers. But I didn't think you were older than dirt just yet.

RB's got it. Be careful taking it out, a few of mine fell apart in my hands when I was trying to pull them off. If you haven't done it yet, might as well do the fuel filter while you're down there.
