Oil pump pickup tube

Anyone have any suggestions on how to best remove stock tube from a stock pump and install a new deep sump tube for our new Moroso pan? Oh, 350 small block.

If all else fails, since you have the pan off, pumps are cheap enough (like $15-20 for the M55) that they can be replaced outright.

i'd throw it all away and buy a new pump. i use an open end wrench and hammer it in then weld a brace on the pick up and bolt it to the pump body. get a M55 pump and a mr gasket #26 spring along with an arp solid drive shaft all for less than 50 dollars.

Thanks guys, but the pump is a brand new speed pro pump with a 3/4" inlet. I think I'll keep it. Removed the base of the pump with the pickup tube. Put it in a wood line vice and used a block of wood and a hammer. 3 or 4 taps and it was mine. Really spooky how easy it was.

And that's why you'll want to weld/braze/bolt a brace back onto the pickup after trial fitting the oil pan.

The pan and pickup are Moroso, and the pickup has a bracket that uses two of the pump bolts. Do you think there is any need to weld also. Never happened to me, but I've read several posts that conclude or suggest that the tube has come undone.

Over kill isn't always a bad thing. Say 380 HP in a street car.
