Need a really good HEI distributor with vacuum advance, what to buy??
I converted to a carb and now need a HEI distributor with vacuum advance. Wheres a good place to one for $200 or less. I heard the Accell Blueprinted ones are good as well as DUI performance distributors. Anyone know a good deal somewhere?

I agree with ODB. Don't egt the Accel.
Get the MSD ready to Run, with an external coil. More than $200, but worth it.
if you want to stay under $200,look at the Pertronix HEI, Jeg's $219.99.

Performance Distributors DUI. They're in Memphis. It's a far better unit than the MSD or the Accel; a shop I know of that has a chassis dyno and is a dealer for all 3 found that the Davis unit was good for as much as 7 RWHP over the others.

I second the motion about the Performance Distributors' DUI being a good piece. I have one on my car, and it has performed well.
When you buy the DUI, Perf will ask you multiple questions about your car, so the advance curve is matched to your combination, rather than being a one-size-fits-all affair. Very nice.

Performance Distributors... 901-555-1212, Memphis, get their #, and ask...
That's what I have in my 400. I lived in Memphis for many years; I used to get Kelly (Davis) to twist up my distributors for me when he still worked at the Delco dealer in Memphis, before he started his company. Unfortunately he passed away recently but his son is keping the business going.

You can spend $200.00 if you want, but here's what I've done and a lot of other people have done as well. You won't see this advertised or written up in magazines, but it's very effective.
Get a HEI Vac advance distributor from a local junk yard or off of Ebay (I did for $25.00) just make sure that everything is tight.
If you want to replace the gear, it's not too expensive.
Then buy yourself a vac advance curve kit, like the one made by Crane, about $30.00, a little less in fact. You can use your original cap and coil for this and if you like you can replace everything else for about $100.00, if you feel you need to, which you probably won't.
So basically, for $60.00 I got myself an HEI vac advance distributor and it is very "tweakable" with the Vac Advance Curve Kit.
I'd certainly do it again, and spend the other $100.00 on an intake!!!!

What ever you do don't buy the Accel Blueprint Distrib. I bought one for my new motor thinking it would be a good piece. It had such loose tolerances that the gear (and thus the rotor on top) could move up and down a 1/4 of an inch. The rotor would move down while running, causing the HEI bushing to lose contact, and it would arc or something, fouling out the HEI bushing and the rotor button thing. Once it fouled out the car would backfire like crazy under half throttle, high load situations.
I chased that problem for freaking ever before I figured out it was the distributor (I ruled it out pretty much for a long time since it was new). $130 down the drain for that POS. I threw in a MSD Pro-billet Distrib and the problem immediately went away. This thing is ROCK SOLID as far as tolerances are concerned. I am extremely happy w/ the MSD unit, although it is like $300.
