Trans. shifts hard
I have 87 Firebird 305 LG4 engine, and I was wondering, cause it has done this ever since i bought it, was after I started up my car, let it warm up, then I put the shifter into Reverse and half a second later, it will shift really ahrd and jerk the car and I think the tires spin a little, but I know its not me cause I hold te brake down hard. Someone told me that a "U-joint" or clamp might be loose and thats waht is doing it. Is this what is wrong, help, thanks.

Your trans may be going or the engine might be idling too high for it to go into gear smoothly. Does it do the same in Drive? If it does, check your idle RPM in park or Neutral. It should be anywhere between 700 and 900 RPM's. If the idle is normal than you can adjust your Throttle Valve Cable. Loosen the tension a click or two and take it for a test run. This does not sound like a loose u-joint.
