GM cam

Anyone ever heard of a GM cam with the last 3 digits "151"???? I heard there's no cam quite like it so I'd like to find the specs on it and check it out!!

------------------
1986 Trans AM
305 TPI
200,000+ miles (speedo/odometer non-funtional! Odometer reads 142,000)
4 Wheel Discs
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear (2.77's....oh joy) :P
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 355 converted from TPI to Carb, Edelbrock 750CFM Carb, Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, Hedman Shorty Headers, Stock casting pocket ported heads (2.02/1.60 - 65cc), XE268 Cam, Moroso HEI ignition kit with external MSD Blaster II Coil and an MSD 6-AL Box!!
Current project: Keeping my 305 running until I get my income tax returns!

It's terrible. It's something like 290° advertised, 222° at .050", .447 lift. I think everybody has built a motor with it at least once and been disappointed. It first appeared in Vettes in about 63; it was discontinued as a production cam after just a couple of years.

It doesn't have big low-end torque, but it never really "comes on" at high RPM either. Above all, it is the absolutely wrong combination of everything for fuel injection.

COMPETITION CAMS CAMSHAFT SPECIFICATION SHEET

PART # 12-106-3
GRIND NUMBER: REPLACEMENT FOR 3863151
ENGINE: CHEV SML BLK 265-400
INTAKE EXHAUST
VALVE ADJUSTMENT .000 .000
GROSS VALVE LIFT .447 .447
.001 TAPPET LIFT 342 342
VALVE TIMING OPEN CLOSE
AT .001 INT 61 BTDC 101 ABDC
EXH 109 BBDC 53 ATDC
THESE SPECS ARE FOR CAM INSTALLED
AT 110 INTAKE CENTER LINE
INTAKE EXHAUST
DURATION AT .050 222 222
LOBE LIFT .2980 .2980
LOBE SEPARATION 114
THIS CAM SHOULD USE SPRING # 981-16

Stay away from it!!! We've learned alot about cams in the last 40 years; that one never was any good, and it's completely obsolete now.

And those are its good points... you don't want me to quit beating around the bush and come right out and tell you what I really think about it.

I've known people who have bought that cam just for the sound at idle.
They say it sounds really mean, but he's right about it not producing power.
