I have not come across the answer to this question in other threads so I will ask.** Advance notice **
I am asking becasue I don't know.. there are a lot of peaple here who most likely know so forgive me if I sound like an un-edumicated goof
I know the 383 stoker is bored over.30 and has a diferent crank, rods and pistons. But what is the advantage of using a different crank, rods and pistons, than using the same ones the car came with and larger pistons. Is there more power with the stroked crank?? If so how??

larger piston won't give you a 383 you need to increase the stroke. longer or shorter rods ( with correct pistons) won't change anything. a larger bore, .030, will only make a very marginal increase in displacement.

In redoing ede's reply. Overbore by .030" will get you 355 cu.in. using the stock crank and rods, but 30 over pistons having the same wrist pin position.
For 383 cu.in., the bore is 30 over as above, but the crank stroke is 3.75" in place of the stock 3.48". Also, since the crank throw is larger, the wrist pin location is moved up in the piston. This is called the compression height.

will it
maintain streetability?? I would maintain the TPI set up with upgraded cam and ported moded L98 heads.

Streetability isn't the issue. The modifications necessary to support the extra flow due to the displacement increase and cam is.

The reason for using a crank with a longer stroke (3.75" vs 3.48") is because with the longer stroke, the rod has more leverage on the crank, which means that the engine can make alot more torque.
