on my 91 RS, can i just swap in a Z28 speedo cluster and have it work fine?

can i simply "unplug" the 110mph speedo and put the 140mph one in? i want to get the bigger speedo, but not if it will be a pain in the *** to get it working.

i need to know asap cause there is one on ebay that ends in about a day.

thanks a lot,

-brian

I did the exact swap that you want to do. My "donor" was a 1991 Z28 and everything appears to work just fine.

It will work fine, but there is one thing you need to watch for: your 91 has an electronically controlled spedometer. Some of the older Z28 speedos were cable driven, and the two are not interchangeable. So make sure the cluster you're bidding on has an electronic speedo.

We're talking about a 91 interior. 91-92 was all electronic with the VSS, no cable. I was wondering the same thing z28 boy, if it works then that might be my next interior upgrade. On second thought I really would like a different shifter console unit.

Just to clarify, 90-92 Camaros have electronic speedos, and the speedo clusters are all swappable with no problems. Just make sure you get the whole speedo cluster, not just the face plate.

Will it matter if the donor Z28 car had
a 350 vs my 305? if so I have found a Z28 cluster and would like to do this swap as well. Is $200 too much for this part?
Also can I adjust the milage to match whats in my car currently?

dannyt...

yeah i think thats a pretty high price for that part. i would say that they normally go in the 75-125 dollar range. i tried to take mine out and change the odometer reading, but i couldnt figure it out. i posted a question about it a month or so ago, so if you do a search you shoudl be able to find it. according to what people replied with, it is possible, but i haventr tried it since.
