CODE 44 Please help kinda long

today at school i hooked the scan tool to my cars computer and it said i have a code 44.

usually upon driving the car runs fine. if i come to a red light thats long the car's idle usually drops. and keeps getting lower the check engine light comes on. when the light turns green i can get it up to about 1300 RPM and the light goes off. the car seems to have some what of a hesitation..not extremely noticeable...could be nothing ive replaced the plugs (which are gapped) cap rotor coil and wires.

should i replace my O2 sensor? or is something else making my car do this wierd crap...

(BTW) my haynes says code 44 is Lean Exhaust, my schools alldata computer says lean exhaust and GM diagnosis says 02 sensor lean error. all of my reseearch is pointing to the 02 sensor. if i change that and nothing changes.. does anyone have suggestions or quick fixes?

Thanks for your help
Dan

Yep it's the O2 sensor. I had code 44 every once in a while, then changed the sensor, fixed that, never saw it again (while i still had the computer). Replace the O2 sensor, and that will solve all your problems (the stupid light) and you won't see it again. The idle could be so low because of the lean condition indicated, since the Computer regulates the fuel/air mixture thanks to the Oxygen sensor.

No biggie to fix, warm the car up for 2 min, shut off, unbolt old (snip wire or unplug) then install new one (torque to 30 lbs or so) then plug or solder wires together. Bosch sells them with 1 year warranty for $20
