Breaking in Engine Questions

I have been told not to break a engine in with ceramic coated headers? Why is that? Will it damage anything? I wanted to do a engine swap and then send my headers off to ACS while I was doing the swap to get coated.

nuclearz... i think the person or persons who told you this are talking smack. i've never heard of that before. i just rebuilt my engine and i put in hedman ceramic coated headers... i doubt my mechanic would have let me do that if he knew it wasn't good to rebuild an engine with ceramic headers. i dont see why it would be bad.

the one thing i know you do have to do when installing long tube headers (coated or non coated) is that you need a heated o2 sensor... other than that, i've never heard of you not being able to break in your engine with coated headers.

maybe whoever told you this wants you to think they know what they're talking about, but they really have no idea wtf they're saying. but i could be wrong and this could all be true... but i seriously doubt it. do a search and see if you find anything on the subject. peace

thats the strangest thing I've ever heard, what adverse effect would ceramic coating pose?

only thing i can think of is that it'll be cooler than uncoated headers/manifolds. and in that case, just get a heated o2 sensor.

i seriously think your friend who told you this is a moron. maybe he's the same guy who put a leaf blower on his intake lol

I remember reading that the coating needs a solid run on them to solidify and harden the coating. (something to that effect) But I am sure if you E-mail ACS they will be able to give you a good answer..

Yup, I've heard it from various coaters.

Yes, it's for the sake of the coating, not the engine.

But you think it would be ok to do it though? It's my daily driver so i wouldn't havetime to take extra time off work to send thwe headers out to get coated.
