motor just rebuilt, big problems
The motor was just rebuilt with the following mods to a 90 350 tpi.
dart iron eagle 165 cc heads port matched to the edelbrock headers, comp cam pro magnum roller rockers 1.52 ratio, mid-high 9's compression from trw forged pistons and gaskets, .488/.495 212/218 comp cam 112 lsa, edelbrock ceramic headers, random tech cats, borla exhaust, siamesed 3.25" base, KN, ported plenum, 24 lb/hr injectors 2600 stall.
The car turned over and started. However, it won't idle for it's life. The throttle must be held open slightly for it to run. Datalogs were taken and it runs extremely lean, loads of spark, not enough fuel, much timing retard.
The distributor is set to tdc on cylinder one. Even base timing was set to 6 degrees advance and there's still no luck.
The number 7 header tube glowed once with the car running. I'm running out of ideas.
Valve lash was done. I pulled the driver side valve cover and the springs go up and down normally.
Does anyone have any specific tips such as a particular wire to check, or sensor, etc?

How does the motor rev? My bet is either rockers too tight, way too advanced or retarded timing, or a fuel delivery problem ...all in that order.

i had the glowing headers. i called edelbrock because it was their cam and lifters i used for a basic cam swap. they told me that since i used a cloyes timing chaing that the timing was set differently causing the cam to be out of phase or something like that...it was 4 years ago. so i had to bust up 50 bucks for the correct EDELBROCK timing chain. point being i would check your timing. also readjust the rockers if all else fails. like stated that can cause a hanging valve.

well
This may help because no one could help me when I had the problem. Mine would start and slowly start to die. Now I was **** and replaced the pump, lines, rebuilt the regulator, everything based on what people said. Now what it was, was the knock sensor was unhooked. The engine would get pump primed when I turned the key to accessory which brought enough fuel to start and run the car for a while, but when the pump determined that there was no knock or oil sending unit the pump wouldn't keep the egnine running as a safety feature.
Also TPS, and CTS sensors might be one problem.

Umm, not sure, but you already told us the problem in the first post. "extremely lean, loads of spark, way retarded"" .........THATS WHY ITS RUNNNING LIKE A YUGO You'll probably need a chip or something so the computer knows what the hell is going on....
