These cars came factory with a tow ball if you wanted......
[My old 80 Chevette came with a ball factory.]
The only problem is tongue weight.
Long as the car is not holding the weight up and just pulling it.......
Ive pushed my 4000lb buick around the yard in the grass before.
Which is no different then towing/pulling.
Pushing or pulling isn't the problem, your engine will tell ya if your pulling to much. You could easily pull a 5000lb load with a V8 3rd gen.
Its the tongue weight that will get ya., if 3000 of them lbs are onthe tongue. Wheelie time.

This past summer, my son and I went to Camp Perry Ohio from Pflugerville, Texas. He was shooting in the National Matches there. My wife had my 2500HD with 5th wheel in San Antonio at the State 4-H Shooting Sports Games with my daughter so my truck was tied up. Once she returned she would be taking the ***** (Toyota Camry) to the National Hunter Pistol Silhouette Championships in Raton New Mexico. THat left My son and me with my 91 GTA for wheels.
I built a custom hitch that would protect the bumper and where the ball could be remove leaving no visible indication of a hitch.
Behind it we pulled a littl Harbor Freight motorcycle trailer (one like you would put behind a motorcyle, not put a motorcycle on) to load our gear in. Our gear included a small window unit A/C among clothes and shooting equipment.
I have the Eibach pro-kit springs and KYB adjustables with all urethane bushings atop Eagle F1 GS-D3s.
The car handeled like a dream even up to 90+ MPH at times and if it weren for the stuff stacked on top of the trailer (we HAD to look like white trash) I would have forgotten it was back there. We got great mileage and had a blast driving (driving is why I bought the car). So I really don't care what anybody thought it looked like, I was having a blast driving my car and hell, that's why I drive a third-gen and not some $1000 beater.
