Anyone with '89 Firebird body manual, help...

Could you please look up the 4'th gear switch . It should be in the engine wiring section along with the TCC switch. Does the manual show the switch Normally Open or Closed to ground? My '88 manual shows closed to ground, but the switch in my tranny is open to ground (closes in 4'th). Any help- out there?

TIA,
Bob

Are you talking about the 4th gear pressure switch in the tranny?

I'll look through the section you mentioned in my Camaro manual, should be the same as the 'Birds

Thanx Mike, that's what mine shows. ('88). But I took it off and checked it, and it works the opposite way. Under pressure the switch is closed. If I looked at the hydraulic schematic right, that circuit only recieves pressure in 4'th. I think the ECM must invert it or something. Anyone know for sure?

thanx,
Bob

You're welcome.

What are you trying to figure out, anyway? Your OD request, or TC lockup in OD only?

I'm using an Accel DFI system. Ever since I hooked it up the tranny would not lock in the right gear, so I disabled it thinking the switch was bad or miswired. Now that the tranny's out, I have a chance to look at it. The DFI is expecting a ground until 4'th gear in which the switch opens and the signal goes hi. (Just like in the manual). But the switch is actually open (hi) until 4'th. I thought it might have been a change between '88 and '89, but our manuals seem to be the same.
I'll hook up a relay to invert the signal. Thanx.
