Has anyone drilled Vortec heads for older intake pattern?

I've seen Vortec heads advertised with redrilled intake patterns, but I'm not sure if there's enough thickness to support the threads. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm new here so excuse me if this has been covered a gazillion times.

Welcome! don't forget you can also grind the intake bolt holes to different angles.

Just helped a buddy yesterday on his Holley Street Dominator intake, to elongate the holes to match his Vortecs.

We needed to do some porting on the top of the intake runners on the Holley to match the Vortecs, and also had to open the sides of the intake on the heads to match the holley..I really don't like the flow path that we achieved..sorta like having a "bubble" in the line, so to speak, but it will still be much better than an abrupt transition from the intake to the heads.

I've heard of some places that filled the original holes and redrilled, but that idea didn't light my fire much.

I received my Vortec heads from Pace with the older holes already drilled and tapped. There appears to be good threads and support for this mod. I used the Edelbrock Performer Vortec manifold (2116) and had no need for the older holes. I had to buy plugs for them as they do go into the water jackets and water was pouring into my new motor. I did some research before I purchased the heads and found out the runners do not line up very well and any horsepower gains might be lost due to this. Good Luck.

i heard that the redriled vortec heads dont have enough materal in the threads, and are very seceptable to striping.

Just replaced oem heads with vortech ($485) I bought these heads nov. 2000. I was waiting for gm to put out new manifold for t.b.i. to match up with vortech heads. Purchased intake last week ($325) and installed thursday with help from a friend. I will tell you this we took are time removed old induction and heads and finished that night. Pre-lubed valves and started next afternoon. I heard what i thought was lashing but was break in point. ran it for an hour. I will tell you this I CANT WAIT TO EAT UP SOME STANGS COME SPRING!!!
