Ok i have a 86 trans am ws6 after fixing the problem with the some lugs that decided to snap off in the transmission pan,i come around the problem with the starter,again i fix that problem then wouldn't you know it i lose complete power to my car and not even getting it jumped seems to bring power to the car. i do admit that at time the lights would come on and off and when i put the two jumper cables together there was sparks and sometimes when i turned the key it would work for a sec now its totally dead what the hell am i going to do? thanks for your time.

Thanks for the info vader,where excatly are the links? i saw the one by the starter when i was screwing around with it and i saw the one your talking about at the rear of the engine the one in the picture you sent too,now where is the one by the battery? Could it be my cables are fried? they look fine but that means nothing now-a-days.How would i go about checking to see if they are fired? thanks Jamie:rockon:

There should be two or more links from the starter main power stud up to that connector. There is also likely at least one link connected to the positive battery cable. The smaller wire in the positive cable termination is connected to chassis power, through fuse links.
You can identify the start and end of fusible links by the large rubber seals over the connections.

In many cases you can give the links a gentle tug. Copper doesn't stretch, but plastic/rubber insulation does. If the link is fried, it will usually stretch.
The more sophisticated method is to meter the load end of the link with a load applied. If full battery voltage isn't present, you likely have a failed link.

Hey Vader guess what?i feel like such a fool! LOL i did not have the wires to the starter tighten enough i found that out when i replaced the starter and i checked the links and they are fine i thank you for all your help and i hope you will help me with future problems. thank you and she is running fine.:hail: Jamie
