t-tops come unlocked.......... mystery
well the mystery here is last week i locked my t-tops after we took them off for a stroll, and today i noticed them unlocked. I never took them off, never unlocked them, nor does anybody have the spare key. DO they do this by themselves or is soemthing up?
I remember people tleling me thats how crooks break into ours, stick their hands throught hw windwos, blah blah blah, but how to the t-tops be unlocked for them. I'm guess ing most people lock their t-tops. So how do they do it?

What was stolen? Anything?
Never have I encountered a break-in where they didn't steal or smash anything.
HOW they would do it I have no idea. I don't break into cars.

nah from what i can tell nobody ever broke in, my question is do these t-tops become unlocked by themselves or something?
I guess i said that is a weird way but my point was that nobody locks their t-tops anymore, so that crooks can get it. Why did you ever stop locking them? Is it because they came unlocked by themselves?
Not i can think strait, good thing cause people woulda thought i was broken into.

One of mine does that. I can hear the worn out lock cylinder rattling around becaue the old car vibrates a lot. It will un-lock and re-lock itself every now and then.

1. Get a new set of locks. They will most likely come with keys.
2. Break down the tops. This means that you have to take off the handle, trim, weatherstripping, and then the latching mechanism itself. Then you have to drill the three or four rivets out of the lock surrounds (be sure to buy a pair of bolts and lock nuts for use here) and pull the clip off of the backs of the locks after the surround is off. The install the locks using the reverse of the above procedure.

ok...... so the lokced unlocking themselves is pretty common then, right? Obvioudly if people had to change their locks for it. I might just do this or find a way to cause frction in the lock itself that way it dont unlock. I dunno, hate to have 5 keys for the car instead of the 4 i already got.
-1 key for doors/truck
-1 key for gas cap
-1 key compartment/t-tops
-1 key ignition
Thats too many keys if you ask me.....

your not supposed to ask questions like that cause we're not supposed to discuss how to break into the cars. Thats why i never said how you do it.

My t-tops had their lock cylinders changed to fit my key because they weren't the originals. I suspect that this is why it came loose.
Maverick's idea to get something to replace the rivets is a good idea. Something with thread lock.
You can always get tops from a junkyard and keep that key for them in the console.
