How do u break in a 300hp, 305TPI
I have a 92' camaro rs with the 3.1 auto. And im about to transplant a 88' 305 TPI and a T-5 5 speed. I have all possible parts brand new for ex. mounts, pump, harness, computer, torque arm basically everything to convert from a V-6 to a V-8. For my question how exactly should i break the car in, i have heard to keep it at 2500 rpm for half an hour to break in the camshaft. I have a hydralic roller. I dont hear if i have to drive it at 2500 rpm or leave it in park and give it gas at 2500rpm and leave it like that at half an hour. IF possible describe every detail and i dont care if the page is 10 feet long, as u can see i put alot of time an effort into the car and i would kill myself, if i broke it in the wrong way. Basically im asking u if u can give me a step to step basis on how to break in the whole motor, in lets say about a week/.
thank u i aprreciate it/

Don't drive it for short periods of time...let it warm up. you shouldn't stay at a constant rpm. Vary the rpms a lot. The varying rpms helps seat the rings.

you'll get a lot of differant answers to this question. i like to use 30w dino oil, vary the rpm between 1000 and 2500 for a 1/2 hour. then change oil then drive it at differant speeds for a while, not wot operation.

agreed, don't stress the engine like lugging it or driving it with a load at low rpms.

Car: Tree Huggers
Engine: Do Not
Transmission: Appreciate Me.
From The General:
RECOMMENDED ENGINE START-UP PROCEDURE
1. SAFETY FIRST! If the car is on the ground, be sure the emergency brake is set, the wheels
are chocked, and the transmission cannot fall into gear.
2. Be sure to check the oil level in the engine and prime the oil system
3. Run engine between 2,000 and 2,500 RPMs, with no-load on the engine for the first 30 min.
4. Adjust the distributor timing roughly by hand for a quick start up and smoothest idle possible.
5. Adjust the carburetor settings, if necessary.
6. After the first 30 minutes of the engine running, set the ignition timing (see install ignition
section for timing specifications).
7. Drive the vehicle with varying speeds and loads on the engine for the first 30 miles. Be sure
not to use a lot of throttle or high RPM.
8. Run five or six medium-throttle accelerations to about 5,000 RPM (55 to 60 MPH), then
letting off in gear and coasting back down to 20 MPH.
9. Run a couple hard-throttle accelerations up to about 5000 RPM (55 to 60 MPH), then letting
off in gear and coasting back down to 20 MPH.
10. Change the oil and filter with 10w30SG oil and PF1218 AC Delco oil filter (PN 251605610
11. Drive the next 500 miles normally, without high RPM's (below 5,000 RPM), hard use, or
extended periods of high loading.
12. Change the oil and oil filter again.
13. Your engine is now ready for many happy cruising miles!
