Error codes? 41,42
One of the two seems to be causing me a problem, where do I start on trying to resolve this?
41 EST (Electronic Spark Timing) circuit failure - no distributor pulses OR cylinder select error OR Tachometer input error.
42 EST (Electronic Spark Timing) circuit grounded OR fault at direct ignition system OR fault at fuel cutoff relay.

Well,
If you're getting a code 41, it means CYLINDER SELECT ERROR (FAULTY OR INCORRECT MEM-CAL). In other words, you have one of the following.
1. a bad mem-cal.
2. the wrong mem-cal
3. the right mem-cal that is improperly installed (not fully seated in the connector).

memcal? Is this part of the ecm? if so I guess I could try to reseat it or replace it? That is the correct code for an 89 firebird? Just askin because the book says different but I really dont know.
>you may be right because it does readjust my timming and make the car run rreeeaaallly slow. Like as if it were misfire from a burt spark plug. But shut off the engine, clear the code and it runs just fine for a lil while, just untill the error comes back.

ok I think I found what may help me. This site shows pix and stuff of the the memcal. I do have two ECMs, one from the 89 camaro that I took the engine out of and put in my 89 firebird. But i swore I tried just swapping the whole ecm but maybe not. I'll find my other ecm and dig out that memcal chip. lol kinda looks like a stick of ram or somethin.
