What is my engine's redline????
On a newly rebuilt 89 350 TPI motor, with the following mods, what would be the highest recommended RPM for me?
-Bored .030 over
-Forged alminum pistons
-Stock rods
-ARP Wave-Loc Rod Bolts
-Stock crank
-Super-Duty Clevite .010 over main and rod bearings
-Standard cam bearings
-Fel-Pro gaskets
-Crane Cams Compucam Camshaft - I forgot the stats, but it's like 2000-5500 RPM range
-Redone stock heads (not ported)
-Ported plenum and intake
-Headers

Heres part of the puzzle:

That should be a clue right there. Stock hydraulic roller lifters are heavy. They dont take well to much of anything past 6000RPM. Theres another clue. The bottom end will handle 6000 as well, maybe more if you had more done to the rods than just throwing the wave-loc bolts in there. You also said its a TPI, which is a limiting factor too.
6000 is probably as far as you want to go with it. It will more than likely run faster shifting a little less than that from 1st, and even less (like 5000) from 2nd.

Engine: L69: cam and porting
Transmission: T5, 3.73 rear
my L69 with stiff(?) valvesprings and a 230/230 cam with .480 lift likes to rev. My engine is rebuilt and checked thouroghly for clearances. The stock heads are ported and milled slightly and the computer and emissions stuff is gone. I rev this motor to 6000+ very frequently. I try to shift around 6100 or 6200 in first and 6000 in every other gear. The motor just mants to keep pulling and i have been revving it for two years(weather permitting) If built correctly, stock stuff can rev problem free!
Just be sure the motor is built right!

Like a rev limiter. Like your SOTP sliding foward.
Also gives you a sick feeling in your stomach.
It's what it makes your engine feel like that's more important. Loose valve train components bouncing around, keepers liberating themselves from retainers, pistons slapping valve heads, valve stems bending under valve guides...
A rev kit takes care of those heavy roller lifters and takes the dynamic strain off the pushrods on up.
