Rough Idle, can't figure it out....

This is on my girlfriends 95 S10. When it rains out the truck will do this. Only at idle will it start sounding like it is going to stall out. But when u accelrate back up it goes away, but when u stop again it idle like it is going to stall out again. I have replaced her wires, coil pack, plugs and it still does it! What do u think it could be? She has taken it to the dealership but of course, it never does it for them, so they don't know what it is. Thanks guys.

This seems to obvious an answer so I'm probably wrong.... but generally when a rough idle only shows up when it rains, it's because moisture is getting into the systems somehow. It can be as simple as a cracked distributor cap....if it has a distributor cap. I also had a friend who's car would do the same thing. It was in a late '80s nova but her problem was that she had a rain getting into her gas tank somehow.... we never did figure that out. But the water would make it's way into the combustion chamber and would screw up the combustion.

Just a couple thoughts.

This is a 95 S10 4 banger TPI.

Yeah, I figure SOMETHING is getting wet somehow but I can't figure out what and why? And of course, the dealership is ALWAYS helpful...lol. They just tell her nothing is wrong with it everytime she turns it in under the warrenty. BTW: I thought the newer cars didn't have dist. I thought they had like these electrical boxes that controlled all of that. I wonder if that is getting wet? But if that got wet it would probably short out though huh?

Tell her to take it back and say " I want my money back, this is ridiculous, have this problem everytime it rains!!" If she is convincing enough, they will tear down the entire truck to find the problem. My friends had the same problem, it was there distributor cap. I know you say she doesnt have one, but it must be something similar.

Maybe they are waiting for her warranty to expire.

Find another dealership, they can accept all warranty claims.

On the distributor issue, I think you are thinking of the new distributorless ignition systems. If she has one, may be one of the modules is getting wet. If she doesn't then it very well could be the distributor.

The other possibility is one of electrical connectors is slighly exposed and shorting somewhere. Maybe one of the coils (if it is distributorless) I definitely agree with the others that it something electrical that is causing it. Don't know enough about the particular system used on the 95 S10, but I hope that this will point you in the right direction.

Yeah, I changed the wires and the plugs and the coil pack thinking that maybe they were cracked. But I guess that wasn't it.
