i'd say you at it, or even a little low. i had a L98 iroc that stayed around 140 when it was moving and never got over 180 or so. everyone talks about thirdgens running hot but my iroc never.

All water-cooled, internal combustion engines run at their maximum efficeincy at 220 degrees farenhiet. But not over. So your perfectly fine at 210. If your below 200, you're running really cold. Ofcourse, there are alot of other considerations. Like if your pinging at 190, and using 92 octane, then well, you've got other problems.

I disagree with the above statement! My car runs between 160 and 175 degrees ALWAYS even in the SUMMER and it runs GREAT!!My car runs like total CRAP when it gets even close to 200 degrees!

For those of you who don't like your car running hot and want to know how to make your car run as cool as mine I'll tell you! First thing I did was take out the nasty 195 thermostat and put in a 160!! Then I bought an adjustable fan switch from the local parts store! It allows me to turn the fan on at any temperature I want just by adjusting the switch! Just add these too little mods and your car will run COOL! :-)

Soon to upgrade to a 383 stroker w/TPI, Hedman Shorty Headers, pocket ported 64cc or 76cc heads(undecided), ported intake, comp cam, TPI air foil, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, possibly bigger injectors!
Current project: Keeping my car running until I get the money for the above mentioned project! :-)

maximum effiency at 220 are you trying to boil the fuel??? just put in a 160* themo and a cooler chip or fan switch and you should run around 170-180 range for true, true effiency and fuel mileage! and the trany wont hate you anymore! those 700s hate heat like that have you ever noticed when its that hot how wonderfull the tranny shifts! yeah 220 yeah right!!!

Future mods performer rpm air gap intake (polished) comp roller cam, and way better headsa 400 defintely in the works!

Well I believe that the most efficient temp of 210-220 is for racing engines only. This means at a pressure of 25 lbs. Since our cars run 15 lbs, the ideal temp. is almost certainly lower. More pressure raises the boiling point, so less pressure (duh) lowers it. Vader posted a long time ago a chart of what temperatures the computer looks for to initiate certain operations and only 2 or 3 were above the 170-180 mark...maybe he'd post it again??

Base: 89 Iroc-Z LB9 auto 2.73 posi
Exh: 3" Dynomax muffler, 3" Pipe in place of cat
Ign: Accel 300+ wires, cap&rotor
Fuel: Cleaned and flow-matched injectors, afpr, !air pump&diverter valve
Sound: Clarion deck, Kicker speakers and amps
Suspension: KYB Shocks, BMR Strut Tower Brace
Misc: TB Bypass, Synthetic Oil, Flexlite Transmission cooler,
free mods, hopefully engine swap and 4th gen seats in the works...

I'm simply repeating what I've learned from many books and teachers, (former and current race engine builders and drivers[Al Tiegs]). Like I said, "maximum efficiency". I know many mechanics that agree with me. Also, they'd agree that you could end up running hotter with a lower temp thermostat. And to add to that, just becuase you have a 160 degree t-stat, doesn't mean your engine will run at 160 degrees.
