POS steering column

Spent today(day off) to fix what I thought were the 4 bolts in the tilt column to repair the heavy play in steering wheel. Wouldn't you know it.. the POS was completely torn down... only to find the 4 torx bolts ARE ON. Absolutely nothing to tighten in that area.
I took my time and did everything by the write ups found in the forum. Any ideas what the problem is?
The center shaft just moves in and out... I mean a kid could have gave a slight yank and it would move about 1/2 an inch.
PLEASE somebody help. Should I give up and but a used replacement or have somebody look at it?
As many time as I tore this thing apart... I could most likey do tear it down again blind folded.
I summon the Tech Wizards of the TGO web to help find a solution..:hail:

COOL!

Thanks Trickster!!:yourock:
This will help me find the possible weak points of the shaft that is causing the problems.

"Plastic Injections"??

In the service manual, page 3F2-4 (thanks Trickster) the is a notice that reads -
"Dropping cloumn on its end could collpase steering shaft or loosen plastic injections that keep the column rigid."

Anybody know where these injections are?? Where would the shaft collapse(shafts under hood, or shafts in the column)??

Look at figure 5 on page 3f2-5 for the locations to check for any damage to the plastic injections.
