Z06 eater for under 3k?
not up on all the latest, so to speak, but wondering how much it is gonna cost to get over the 400hp mark reliably. I have an 02 vette with a running engine, no clue which L-what it is though......original engine if that helps.
Friend issued a challenge though, and it is obvious i will need some goodies to beat the 406hp zo6. i am rebuilding the front suspension, got sideswiped, so this is probably time to do some aftermarket parts installation here. All i am concerned about for the price of 3k is engine though, so feel free to list what you have always been wanting to get but did not have the cheese for it, or whatever, you get the idea just get me over 400 and i will be happy, this place have a donation setup or something?? dont like leeching off people for nothing too much.
i have got a third gen too, so please try not to flame on me for posting vette questions doh!

You have an Ls1 motor. People here have generally more knowledge about lt1 and tpi intakes so intake suggestions for ls1s will probably not come out by the dozens from us(I know at least one person will prove me wrong). For starters, headers, hi flow cats, exhaust, KN air filters, and custom chip should get you off in the right direction.

www.ls1.com or www.camaroz28.com might be of better help.

check out MTI's heads and cam packages... the stage 2 LS6 heads, with the X1 cam, LS6 intake, long tube headers, etc make around 450 RWHP... now that package can run around $6000, not the $3k you were looking for, but if you know someone that can port heads for a decent price (i know someone in the denver area, email me if interested) you can port your stock heads ($300-500 from the guy i know, this includes cutting the spring perches for bigger springs, and screw in studs), buy a nice cam KIT ($700) and some long tube headers ($600-1800) add a cold air, and an exhaust and you should have around 400 RWHP, that will blow away that Z06! and if you really wanna put him to shame add 100 shot of nitrous, the motor can take it no problem (LS1's are very strong) also check out www.ls1motorsports.com just to prove my point about the motors being strong they have a stock trans am with 120,000 miles and they added their turbo kit, and a cat back, made 631 RWHP and 680 RWTQ, and the stock motor is fine after several thousand HARD miles

Hmmm, $3k on an LS1. You know the LS1 can run mid 11's @ 115-ish w/ just bolt-ons right? And you can get just over 400 HP AT THE WHEELS and run low 11's with bolt-ons and a cam with the stock heads. The ZO6's run about low-mid 12's @ 116-117 stock.
Get some drag radials or slicks (~$400 for vette wheels?)
If you have an auto, get a GOOD torque converter. (~$700)
Full exhaust-longtube headers, catback (~$1000)
Airlid (~$125)
I'd get a G5X-2 cam (232/240) from LG Motorsports along with the appropriate valvetrain (~$1000). If that's too big, try a Thunder Racing 224/224 and get the entire cam and valvetrain kit for around $700-800.
Do all the free mods.
Get it tuned! (~$500)
That will be MORE than enough if his ZO6 is stock, especially if he's running on street tires. If you want to spend more, get some more bolt-ons like an LS6 or LSX intake ($$$ for LSX), bigger throttle body and MAF, etc.
