First Time RS Owner w/ a few questions?

Hey everyone.
Tomorrow i will be the proud owner of a cherry 92 RS.

The car is a 92 RS, w/305, auto and pretty much stock with the exception of the ignition, shocks, and trans cooler.

This is my first bowtie and was wondering what performance mods i should consider?

This car is going to be a daily driver with an occasional trip to the drag strip.
Some of the mods i am considering are:
B&M Shift Kit
Exhaust
Jet Performance Chip

What do all you Chevy guru's suggest?

Chris

Congrats on the 92. I had an 89 RS a while back and here's are the things that I'd suggest to do first:

1. Exhaust, 3" cat back with free flow mufler
2. After market chip, I went with an Hypertech that I had specially programed by Hypertech
3. K&N Air Filter

That's a start, and it will make a pretty noticeable difference.

Before you start in on mods for power, make sure you have the upkeep up to date. New spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, sensors, etc.
One of the cheapest and easiest mods for you will be the open air element. That install can be found in the tech articles.
Don't waste your time buying an aftermarket chip. Make your own. For the cost of having a company "burn" you a prom chip you could probably buy several other things. Plus, as soon as you do another mod, the chip would not be exactly right for you anymore. If you want more information on that subject look in the TPI boards.
A set of slightly higher gears will make the car more fun to drive, and be relatively cheap.
Exhaust is a good start too. You will probably see the most gain in exhaust if you change the exhaust manifolds and Y-pipe at the same time as mufflers, converter and piping.
Research anything you do to your car on here before doing or buying and you will be much better prepared and happier.Just my opinion, good luck.

I'm just going to be cruising around for now until my Jeep sells then i will have funds to play with the car.
Any and all suggestions are welcomed on what this baby will need to liven her up later on.

get a set of headers when you do your exhaust (not sure what brand is best for a 305)

also, let your engine chug down a bottle of GM TopSide Engine Cleaner. I didn't notice any performance gains, but it can't hurt to clean out all the built up crap inside the engine.

How much $$$ are you planning on spending for performance?

This weekend she is getting an oil change and new plugs.

I was told not to use Platinum or Iridium plugs with the ignition that is on the car. All i can remember right now is it's an MSD setup.

Right now i don't want to spend more than $2g's on mods. Anything over that and i'll have do alittle at a time.

Thx,
Chris

Congrats on the '92RS. I am quite happy with mine. Make sure you post some pics when you get it.

I started with air intake and catback and noticed small gains right away.

I just finished putting on TPI heads, L98 cam, Hooker Supercomp headers and a 3" cat. Runs great and sounds great.

There are some places you can start. Stick with your stock chip until you do some major mods. Then have a custom chip burned to take full advantage of all the changes.

DON'T FORGET THE PICS!!!
