hei mech advance
hi i would like to pick your guys brains on a way to limit the mech advance on my hei . i didnt want to run locked mech advance but i may have to ?

You might give a call to some local machine shops. See if they can help with getting an assortment of weights.
Your adsolute goal would be to find a shop with a distributor dyno to recurve it for you.
I would shoot for 22° or so total mechanical advance for street performance or race.
Locking it at 36° will make the car a BEEAAATCH to start.
...and you would probably have to run race fuel to keep it from detonating at low rpm.

Locking out the mechanical advance is only for long duration cams.
You can dissassemble the distributor and weld up the slot that the advance mechanism pin, slides in.
Then grind it back out to allow the advance to only move a small amount.
As far as I know there are no weights or advance pin bushing that will limit the advance enough for your purposes. So you'll have to weld up the slot to restrict its travel. Its not that hard to do.
