oil pump questions

Hey guys I need to get an oil pump for my new motor and I planned on getting a stock pump for an 89 bird from pepboys cause I work there. So I went over tonight and I looked it up and we had the pump and the pickup but no shaft or sleeve. My first question is can I use the stock shaft and sleeve and how do i put it on? my other question is how do I get the pickup inside the pump without damaging it. And most of all, there was 2 pumps, they are dm55, and dm55hv, the hv being a high volume. Now I wanted stock but the stock one is made my a company called DYNAGEAR and the HV is made my MELLINGS. I bought the DYNAGEAR but I looke din ther mellings and there was a extra spring, Whats that?? thanks guys

The Dynagear is fine. You don't need the high volume. The 2nd spring is for higher pressure.

The sleeve often breaks when you try to remove it from the old pump. You'd be better off finding a shaft with a steel sleeve (Pep Boys should either have it or can get it).

There is a little tool available for driving the pickup onto the pump. Or, use a line wrench over the pickup pipe and tap it in with a mallet.

apr and melling both make oil pump drive shafts ,i wouldn't use a stock piece if i could help it. the dynagear pump comes real close to having a melling number, wonder if it's made by melling.

Pep boys does have the pump drive shaft with the metal sleeve. I think it's was only 7 bucks for this non employee.
