Cooling Problem, need some help.....
Tonight as I got to my destination I noticed some smoke coming from the engine and the distinct smell of anti-freeze.
I looked under the hood but it was too dark to see very clearly.
When I got home I looked again. I noticed some coolant on the side of the engine bay down below the coolant resevoir. There were no visible leaks from any of the hoses.
I felt the hose going from the radiator to the top of the intake and it was very warm, it would burn your hand if you left it there for more than a few seconds.
I then proceeded to check the radiator cap, it was not hot at all, just slightly warm.
Thermostat that I just put on Sunday is a 195 degree stat, it was my old one, I took the 160 off due to cold weather and the interior was too cold.
The temp gauge in the car reads 200 degrees since the swap with the 195. I get a good amount of heat inside the car now.
I also changed my heater core on Saturday.
I have no idea what I should check to find out what the problem might be.
Thanks Guys.

I've got a crack in my reserve tank that sometimes lets antifreeze vapor come out of it for a few seconds.
I really need to get that fixed. heh

The over flow connection that goes to the radiator broke off of mine. I didn't even put it back on because I don't use it in the winter. Did you overheat or did you just lose antifreeze? If you overheated it should come out of the top of the resiviour once it hits the selected pressure of the res. cap it will begin spewing out. The upperhose should be 195* if the theromostat has been open and you have been driving the car because if the theromostat doesn't open until 195* then all coolant going through the upper radiator hose has to be atleast 195* The radiator cap is different, it has cooled some by the time it reaches the radiator plus there is no direct coolant touching the top of the cap (the part that blocks off the coolant from going to the resiviour is what gets heated).

Well, I bought a new thermostat today and everything seems fine now. The one I put in on sunday was my old one, which I guess doesn't work right. Temp is now at about 160* since it's cold outside.
