My rear end in screwy

I have a completely stock 84 Sport Coupe with the 3.08 rear end. I thought almost for sure it was an open rear end. When I went to the drag strip, I had rubber from the track only on my right rear quarter panel. Well, my friend was backing my car out of the garage, and there was still some sno on my driveway. I saw the left wheel spinning when it hit the snow. Could this be a limited slip differential? Why would it only spin on the right at the strip, and the left in my driveway? (although I didn't see the right side at that time, so it COULD have been spinning as well) Or could it just be a broken posi? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Won't an open diff spin the right rear going forward, and the left rear going backward? That's how my old 3.42/open/drum axle worked...

open differentials can lock up and spin both tires. i know this for a fact because my friend has one and has spun them both left 2 tire marks in front of my house. (it also caused him to fishtail quite nicely) my guess is that it is an open diff. or possably a broken limited slip..

If it breaks, it wasn't good enough anyway.

it has a 99% probablity of being an open rearend...

before I got my new rearend with posi I was able to get my open rearend to burn both tires twice. Both situations were when traction was serverly limited (fishtail and slick road) or for you, snow. I thought the same thing as you and found out it was an open diff.

Just jack up the car and spin the tire and if the other one spins then you have posi, if not, then you know...

its an open Diff.
Mine will spin Both tires in reverse 70% of the time, and both In forward ( ha ) 10% of the time. if its rainy or gravel or any other limited traction it will spin em both every time.

and Ive got no Dillusions of Posi, Its a one wheel wodner baby.

Oh yeah, 85 SC with 3.08's just like you
