What are your thoughts on the dart iron eagles ? Originally I was thinking about getting the 165cc 1.94 / 1.50 eagle s/s' . CHP flow bench results were 195 cfm@ 0.400 . I'm looking for as much "light to light" bottom and mid range torque as I can get , I'm just not sure if there too much on the small side for a mild sb .
I'm haveing trouble decideing on those , or the iron eagle 180's 2.02 / 1.60 IE . They only flowed 15cfm more than the 165's @ 0.400 . Would that little amount and the bigger valves make much of a difference?

Pro Topline makes a very nice iron head with 180cc ports. Have you read in the newest issue of CHP about their 400 HP 383? They use those heads and Pro makes some nice parts...
And to answer your question about the flow and valves making a big difference. Yes it would. For street bound engines you don't want to go overkill on runner cross section because the smaller port sizes increase the velocity of the incoming air. This builds more torque while limiting the upper RPM breathing. You don't seem to be concerned about that. I would stay lower than 190cc for your runner sizes. There are tons of good heads out there.
One more thing. Don't be overly concerned with the peak flow numbers. Make sure to look at the entire curve. The heads that flow the most air in the .200-.400 with a decent peak would be the best for what you want. Street power!!

I came to the understanding that smaller runners will help to build up more torque . So going with the 165's might be a better choice . Upon doing more thinking , I thought maybe I'd still get that with the next size up , and maybe the smaller ones were better suited for a slightly smaller motor , maybe a 327? Plus haveing a slighty hotter cam It might like the extra air .
I'm loseing my attention span lol , got heads on my mind steady . Just wanna make the right choice . I want the kinda torque that shreds the tires when ya nail it , or throws ya right back in the seat if I put sticky tires on

Go over to the CHP website. They have on the website flowbench listings of just about every head on the market, popular ones, for SBC. I think the 165s would be a little small for a mild cammed engine. Its your choice though...

What is a "slightly hotter cam"? Anyway, if i was looking for what you were looking for, I would probably consider the 180cc's of the 165's. But I might get the 180cc with 1.94/1.5 valves if I was looking for bottom end if you can get them in that configuration. That's how the trucks made a lot of their bottom end.

I'm leaning more toward the 180cc size now . Dart does'nt have theres listed with the 1.94 valves . Maybe I'd be ok with the next size up? . I'm going to see what I can dig up on the pro toplines before I make any decision . I should of been more careful with info on my car when I got it , at the time I was'nt really interested in changeing much with it . The idle has a pretty good chop to it , and vacum was at 13" when I checked , and my brakes still work ok . A mechanic told me it's cammed on the milder side also , kinda wish I had more to go on though . Thanks for the replies .

I just had a set of protopline iron lightnings put on my engine
180cc runners 64cc chambers 2.02 1.60 valves and i got the pro flow undercut valves.
I came from stock LM1 heads.
They made a huge difference HUGE the car pulls solid from 0-5000 RPMs, i might have lost a small amount of low end, but its hardly noticable, i can light up 275/40/17 kuhmo's like im driving on ice... kinda a problem, i need to do some supsension tweaking.

Here are the specs on the cam:
Comp Cam Kit 238 Grind: 262 Lift: .462"/.469" Duration@.50 218/224 Lobe Separation 110 RPM: 1300-5600
I have 1.6 rockers so the lift should be .493/.500 now
The block does have dished pistons, it used to have 8.5:1 compression with 76cc chambers... the new chambers are 64cc I don't know what that brings the compression to off the top of my head.
A rough estimate assuming the same gasket size is 9.55:1

If someone has one of those programs to estimate better that be sweet. I want my compression roughly the same. Heads and push rods are puttin' the squeeze on my funds for a bit. If I over do it slightly compression wise I could always go with some 1.6 rockers later. I did my homework, but I still have so many questions. Thanks again. I called the guy that put this engine together for more specs but he's always busy and i think he has brain freeze. He's cool, just too busy. Plus it's my own fault for not hanging on to the paperwork.
