What to look for in a bottom end

I got my motor out and got it on a stand and upside down, now where should i look for problems? the kid that owned it before me said it died and he knew nothing about motors so... what am i looking for? nothing popped out at me as unusual or beyond normal wear. the top end and heads were all good, and the head gasket didn't look too bad, with very little/ no blow-by. should i take the cam out and look for something with that? thanks for any help

Look at the front-most rod and main bearings. If they show copper, or if the crank doesn't look pristine all the way around those journals, do a crank-kit to it.
