LT1 Intake, cc306, what else do I need?

Ok trying to get my plans worked out for the winter season... right now I have a stock L98 and it's sitting on 92K miles. TPI has already been decided long ago that it will be thrown in the trash. What I'm looking for is a fairly inexpensive combo that puts out decent power (more then what I have) now, that has potential to be better when money permits. BTW emmisions are not an issue, and the car will not be driven daily. So far I've come up with this plan..

LT1 intake, with CC306 cam.. seems to be a proven combo that can put out some very impressive numbers with the right heads. And as for heads I am undecided, I would be more then happy to slap on a set of AFR's, but like I said I'm trying to keep it fairly inexpensive for now until I can afford AFR's.

I have mingled with the thought of getting my stock heads ported and upgraded to handle the lift of the cc306, but from what I'm reading it looks to be a serious bottle-neck. Maybe somebody can reccomend a cheap set of iron heads that flow well. But would the stock heads be even useable?

Another issue I see is that supposedly the stock ECM can only be programmed to 6400 RPM's? I'd probably like to rev a little bit higher then that, but I probably couldn't do that with the L98 heads. And how much abuse would that stock bottem end handle revving around 6500 RPM's? I see Traxion is doing it now and running on the factory shortblock.

I guess I'll probably take the same approach as Traxion, and when it blows up, then I'll rebuild it when I have to But what would be some parts to check/replace before I go and just throw heads/cam/intake at it?

I guess I'd be happy with mid/high 12's w/iron heads if possible and 11.9's or better w/AFR's. I do realize there is a lot more then just throwing parts at it, but I just want to get an idea of a good foundation to get me where I want to go.

Oh and another BTW, don't worry about converter or gears, because it will be getting a T56 with 3.73's shortly after the motor work.

Anyway thanks for looking, and I appreciate any replies

Dave

Well, the stock ecm as it sits doesnt have provisons to accept fueling changes after 6400 rpm. But I would say that your needs would be the same after that anyway. It isn't like the engine shuts off or something at 6400. Also, I believe that the source code can be altered to effect things after 6400. I don't think this will be an issue for you though.

IMO, there are better cams than the cc306. That one is just common. I think that the single pattern cams seem to work better on the whole.

If you are looking for 11.9 to low 12's why not use the comp 294s that is the one car craft was using in their 383 Nova running 11.7X with AFR heads. I am starting a 383 build up with the 294s, desktop dyno gives peak hp with the 294s in a 383 at 6500 rpm and I think the 306 i simulated peaked at 7000rpm. If I remember correctly when I simulated both cams for a 350 the 294s peaked around 7000 and the 306s peaked around 7500 rpm.
