Cam comparison question

I am looking at 2 sets of cams for my car. i have a set of vortec heads, which i know flow best at around .500 lift. so im looking for a cam that is around that. i have settled on 2.

CAM 1 (Comp Xtreme Energy):
-Designation: XR270HR-10
-Duration @ 0.050": 218 / 224
-Max Lift w/ 1.5RR: .495 / .502
-Lobe Separation: 110
-Intake Centerline: 106

CAM 2 (suggested from cammotion.com):
-Grind Number: X2161-2201-10+4
-Duration (intake/exaust): 214/218
-Lift (intake/exaust) .498/.508
-Lobe Center Separation: 110
-Intake Centerline: 106

As you can see, they really only differ in the duration and probably cam grind design. like i said, i have vortec heads, casting #906. i will have upgraded to manley race flo 1.94/1.5 vavles and upgraded springs, retainers, etc...

on their site, Comp says the xtreme energy opens the valve faster and stuff, making it state of the art. i dont know about cam motion's cam. i need input on which cam to get. unless there is a crane cam of similarness. and yes, i need a hyd. roller cam. so which should i get? i want a strong mid range power. noticable idle. and no need to worry about the rest of the engine. i am building that to match the cam. (all i have is the block and heads so i will match the parts to the cam for RPM range)

If you're looking for a strong low and mid range....a long duration cam will usually leech that away and add power up top. So given that, I would go for Cam 2.

Just don't forget that your cam needs to match up with your compression too. You didn't specify what you planned on running. If you're thinking less the 10:1, I would probably Cam 2 but if you were planning on running over 10:1, I might run Cam 1.
What I usually do when I pick a cam..is to use DD2000 and set up the motor with all the specs that I'm planning on using then start entering cam specs and track the different HP and TQ numbers. I usually don't pay much attention to the actual numbers as I do the the amount of change in the curves of the different cams. For example, I entered in about 6 different cams with the other motor specs staying the same, then I would average the HP and TQ numbers from 2000-5500rpm cause you really need the highest average HP and TQ over your rpm range instead of just peak. Anyway, that's how I do it.
