A/C Delco Rebuilt Alernators OK ?
I have just had a bad experience with a Palladium rebuilt alt from Advance Auto. The first one had one screw thread which was not the same as the original. I returned it and got a second Palladium, and it had ALL the threads different from the orig. I couldn't get ANY of the bolts or screws to fit in !!! Plus, the parts guy had to replace the fan on the second alt, since it was bent, and made a clattering sound when he tested it. Good Gawd !!
So..... this same Advance AUto has an A/C Delco rebuild for $105. Will it be any better ?
AutoZone has a Duralast for $130.
National Auto has a Jenco for $105.
They all have a lifetime warranty.
Are any of these alts OK? Or do I have to spend a lot and get a new A/C Delco ?
Thanks

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
Any time you ge a rebuilt alternator or starter your rolling the dice. But they usually come with a warranty so if they go bad you can get another one for little or nothing. The only problem is the down time on the car and your time putting it back in. I had to do the starter on my camaro twice and the alternator on my Trans Am twice.
If you can't afford the down time and repair time then you should probably go with a new one. But in my opinion, the price on the remans is worth the roll of the dice. You'll have to evaluate your situation.

Ive got the autozone alt in my 86 IROC. Has a lifetime warranty on it. Been working for 2 years no problems yet. Alternators on these cars are easy to change. Starters, well thats a different story.

delco rebuilt means that they are rebuilt by delco and not some after market company and use delco parts. With advance you just have to make sure it is the one for your car. I had a problem getting the right starter for my car and ended up going to a delco dealer to get the right one for my car. Same for the alt. and was about the same price.

i've used a/c delco reman stuff with good luck. the delco reman alternator has been working fine for the past few years without a hiccup. though the only complaint i do have is a slight whine from the alternator. my original one did the same thing so i guess it's normal....

Transmission: That, too.
AC Delco reman alternators are re-manufactured by a company called Nabco up near Illinois, I think. AC Delco actually manufactures nothing, they are just a marketing firm. Many of their products are good, however, I'm not knocking them. Just trying to clarify some opinions.
I suggest the Gold Autozone brand. 100% new parts, lifetime warranty.

D_Amlee is correct they are remanfactured by "nabco" exclusively for A/C Delco. it's even stamped on the alternator.
just like the A/C Delco wires, which i use are actually Delphi/packard wires.

go with the delco or the 'high-priced' autozone one, I've installed many of both on many cars, never had a problem other than with the 'cheap-priced' one from autozone

Careful on the A/C Delco alternators...I just found out that their "lifetime" warranty has been downgraded to a "1-year" warranty. I was told they no longer offer a lifetime on their alternators. Maybe I was fed a load of crap, but that's what the guys at O'Rielly's told me when I had to replace my Delco....so I plan on replacing it every 363 days, bad or not! lol
