Fuel pressure drops after 2 seconds... solution
I was having a problem with my son's car. The fuel pump would come on for 2 seconds when the ignition key was first turned to 'on', and the car would start. Then, the fuel pressure would drop to zero, and the car would stall.
We had replaced the fuel pump, the fuel filter, and fuel pump relay about 4 months ago. Today, we also replaced the oil-pressure switch - before we read all the posts explaining why that wouldn't help!
After much aggravation, it turned out to be a dirty connector at the distributor. The ignition module connectors send an ignition pulse to the ECM when the car fires up. If the pulse is not there after the initial 2 second pump operation, the ECM never sends voltage to the fuel pump relay to run the fuel pump again. The car dies from fuel starvation.
Just a FYI. If you have this problem, a little contact cleaner and about 5 minutes will save lots of time, trouble, and money.
